The Electoral College in the U.S. government is a body of electors that chooses the President and the Vice President. Each state has different number of electors. It depends on the number of Senators and Representatives in their state. However, no Senator, Representatives, or officer of the U.S. government may be an elector.
The Electoral College strengths can be that our Federal System is important. It reminds us a role for states in the selection of the president. It encourages more person to person campaigning by candidates. They spend time in both big and small cities. Their will be recounts in states rather than across the country. In each state, the candidate with the most votes takes the Electoral College vote.
The Electoral College weakness can be that when the winner of the Electoral College is not the candidate who received the most votes of the people. Most Americans believe that the candidate who received the most votes should become the president. The Electoral College system is close election. It may be in subject to mischief like causing electors to be disloyal or even bribed.
I think that we shouldn't have the Electoral College. It is a system that is not very fair to the people. The Electoral College votes is based on the number of members in the Senate and in the House in their state. So smaller states with a small population have less votes than those with a bigger in population. Sometimes the winner of the Electoral College was not the candidate that won the majority vote. Most American believe that the candidate with the most vote should be the President.
